With the fall colors gone, a new color has arrived -- and our view of the White Mountains is beginning to live up to the name! Alayne got this shot a few days ago after a nice dusting of snow covered the tops of the nearby peaks. Mount Washington, which we can see from the western side of the property, is completely snow covered now, although these peaks to the east still have their snow cover coming and going. Not quite winter yet, but getting there! (Click on photo for larger view.)

Thank you for all your heartfelt comments about our loss of Callie, and also for your supportive responses regarding the one negative comment we received. The person who wrote that, Denise, has since sent an email to us with a very gracious apology for her remarks regarding that blog post. We have accepted her apology and consider the case closed. But thank you for your incredible support. Alayne and I are very grateful for all your kind thoughts for our little Miss Plumpette.

Still 2nd place!
Please keep voting for the sanctuary in the Shelter Challenge -- the votes are adding up! And remember, you can vote every day, so consider bookmarking the voting page to make it easy.
You can vote in the Shelter Challenge here.
Please note: Use Rolling Dog Ranch for our name and NH for the state and our listing will come up.
It was thanks to all of your amazing votes that we won the $20,000 Grand Prize in the final Shelter Challenge of 2009, and we came in fourth nationwide in the first Shelter Challenge earlier this year, winning $3,000. So this is serious money and can really make a difference for our disabled animals! Please help us win this round of the contest by voting every day, and by encouraging your family, friends and colleagues to vote every day, too. Thank you!
Total change of subject...How is little miss Daisy's ear healing?? I think about those precious little ears and one having a big hematoma makes me cringe. I hope it is doing better. Please let us know how she is doing.

What a beautiful and peaceful shot! Once again I find myself longing for a bit of snow in the heat of summer down here, although we're having some very welcome rain today.
I am so very very sorry about Callie, I certainly will miss the antics of Miss Rolypoly - she reminded me so much of my own old girl (still 'round' and about!!). I'll remember her with a smile, as I'm sure you will as well.
Concerning the critics - anyone reading your blogs of the past years, as I have, will know that the two of you care more about the animals in your care than we could ever imagine. Even though I have never met you (I still wish to some day), I trust your instinct and knowledge. Keep going, keep loving, and please keep sharing - we all need to hear and know that there are still people like you in this sometimes miserable world we live in. It keeps the hope alive...
Hugs to you both in this very sad time. And as always, be kind to yourselves too.

What a peaceful, beautiful photo.
The perfect setting for all at RDR!

Though I did not see the comments made by Denise, just the fact that someone would critizise your good works started my day off poorly. I know you have accepted her apology, how genuine is in question, I am so sorry you had to endure that. I support you, cried for Helen & Callie & appreciate your time to support me in the loss of my Bailey. You are in inspiration to all of us animal lovers.

It is so nice that you and the animals have such beauty around you.
I am grateful (and probably some other folks are, too) for all that you do for these wonderful animals.

I never saw Denisse's comment, and I'm glad. I'm also glad she has apologized and hope she followed through by deleting any posts on her own blog in which she wrote critically of you guys. Simply posting an apology, there, would not be sufficient, as those negative posts are out there and will continue to be picked up by others.
Please don't stop letting us know about your losses because of some of the insensitive, "all-knowing" critics. Frankly, until I read your comment in this latest post about them and about Denisse, I would never have guessed you would be "treated" to such idiocy and thoughtlessness. They may love animals, but they need to extend that love to people. And you two have many friends who love and appreciate you both, even though we've never met you.
Please--go hug a couple of dogs and stroke a couple of cats for us!

You sure do pick some amazing places to live! This is just beautiful!

It is looking like each season is showing off for you just how pretty NH is. I hope you and all the critters are all settled in for the winter and can enjoy this seasons beauty. I am so glad you got all moved into this ranch as early in the year as you did. I hope you and Alayne can now have some time to sit with a coffee and enjoy the beautiful views, even if it is only for a few minutes in between all the pet care and ear scratching, belly rubbing and dog food bowl cleaning ;)

What a beautiful shot, it is calming to one's soul.
Looks like a "sitting on the porch with a cup of coffee" picture to me! (in all your spare time, lol)

Mount Washington was great, we drove up there on our visit to New England in 2006. Of course, the summit was covered in clouds. And windy. That road is a real nail-biter too, something like 12% grade? Phew! Since you can see it, you can pick a better day to take the drive.

New England has some beautiful scenery as you both are finding out. Imagine that Montana did also.
Keep those pictures coming of scenery & of all the animals. We all enjoy them so much. Would like to see some of the cats and the horses. Haven't seen them in awhile. Hope all is well with them. Good luck in the Shelter Challenge. I vote every day for RDR.

Wow, to be able to look out upon such majestic views every day must be so wonderful! I'm jealous :)
I'm glad that Denise did the right thing and apologized to you. We all support everything that you and Alayne do for all your beloved charges at RDR!

Thanks to your blog, I've gotten to see parts of Montana and, now, New Hampshire. Although I don't always comment on the scenic posts, I always enjoy them. The rainbow photos are my favorites. Thank you.
Good shot, Alayne!
I didn't see the fence in this photo. Does that mean it's gone? ;)
