IT'S GOING TO BE A LONG WINTER EVEN HERE IN ILLINOIS. FUNNY STORY. I KNOW SECRETLY ALL THE FOUR LEGGED'S WERE SILENTLY CHEERING YOU ON. STAY WARM . . .

I'm sure that with all of your animals and buildings, and infrastructure there's always something that needs attention. God bless you and all the hard work you do.

Hooray for another problem solved! Your being creative helps - and hard-working too of course!!

Isn't this about the time you and Alayne look at each other and say,"...and we didn't build the Sanctuary in the Cayman Islands WHY?!?!?!?!"

Reading you post made me cold! Yes, I am a whimpy 20 above zero Seattlite! :) Good Job Team RDR!

Wow. My first thought is how fortunate y'all were to discover the problem when you did. Wouldn't several more hours made a difference in damage, costs to repair, etc? I also thought of how one of the articles I've read recently about RDR talked about how both of your previous professional lives have helped you develop skill sets that make you such a success at running a sanctuary (like problem solving). Fascinating.

This is the longest Blog entry I have seen since I started following the Adventures at the Rolling Dog Ranch. I do feel your pain Steve. Worked up on the Northern Slope of Alaska during the winter. I wonder if the lenght of the entry was to clearly explain the action or maybe to get some feeling back into your fingers from typing so much. Have a safe Weekend.

I know the horses appreciated your hard work to get their water flowing; they just don't know how to show it. ;P
This was a great story and a further look into what you do on your winter days...no comment on the weather. ;)

What a great team the two of you are....calm and creative in a crisis! You have amazing problem solving skills...and that must come in very handy out in the middle of nowhere.....I applaude you once again.

Its kinds like not being hungry until you go on a diet, then your starving.

Steve & Alayne: nothing fazes you, apparently. You're simply amazing!

But don't you wish you had chosen Florida or Arizona for your sanctuary?;-)

Montana sure makes Italy's Piedmont seem balmy...:-)

Just another example of the expertise and flexibility it takes to keep Rolling Dog Ranch running smoothly. You two are always my heroes!

Hi! Once again you have earned my admiration & amazement at how you keep going & devote so much of yourselves to love & care for these lucky animals! Sending Christmas greetings & hopes for warmer weather. I vote for you every day!

My stomach actually hurts after reading this post...the thought of all of those critters without water during a cold spell. Can you tell I'm a bit jumpy about colic? You two are incredible! So happy that you found a somewhat simple solution and that it worked! And, happy to hear that the horses were dutifully ignoring the full waterers ;)
Sleep well both of you!

Right on, intrepid ranchers!
Hang in there, just another 6 months of MT winter :)

The Seattle folks are restless and frigid because it is 20 degrees. I, as a proud native Montanan, keep bragging that 'this is not cold'. Here's to sending you some 20 (+) degree days....

Did you foresee this kind of adventure when you decided to partake of this endeavor? God bless you both!

I learn so many interesting things reading your blog. Wow, you two are saints.

As a homeowner who faced a failed AC unit in July, a pipe backup that flooded my downstairs one month after installing brand new carpet, and a myriad of other house issues this year.....I call this phenomena "IT IS ALWAYS SOMETHING". Hope this is all you have to deal with this week.
