On Friday afternoon our equine vet, Dr. Bill Brown of Missoula, came out to the ranch to work on several of our horses, all of them old, blind ones ... with one exception -- 6-week old Cash!
Bill did a complete health exam on our youngster, and found Cash has a hernia that will need surgery to fix. It's not an emergency and Bill would like us to wait until Cash is about a month older, because he will need general anesthesia for the operation. We'll have him gelded at the same time. (For non-horse people, that means neutered!)
It didn't take Bill long to fall in love with little Cash ... about 60 seconds, as I recall. Pretty clear from the photo, don't you think?
Bill also did an eye exam, and he isn't convinced Cash is blind from aniridia, or the absence of the iris. He thinks Cash may be missing other structures in the back of the eye. However, he will get a much better look when Cash is under anesthesia next month.
Meanwhile, Cash is growing and growing ... and doing just fine!

Who couldn't fall in love with that? :) Looks like Cash and Doc are going to be great pals. Will be thinking good thoughts and sending lots of love to Cash for his doctor visits to come.

This baby is just beyond adorable! He is thriving in his home, that's obvious.
How is his canine co-resident, Claude, doing? I wonder about him.

I enlarged the photos before I read the post and thought Dr. Brown looks quite starry eyed over Cash but don't we all!?!?
I'm sure his sweet energy is a real treat for the the Ranch.
I'm glad he's growing and doing well!
