That is such a funny & cute trait. But, I agree w/ the reasoning. If they can't see you, you can't see them. Or, maybe since sleep is such a wonderful past time he might be trying to cover his bum but just gets tuckered out & falls asleep before he makes it that far. But, the wise words of Frankie are probably correct. Their bums are so darn cute they have to show them off.

it's called "I can't see you so you can't see me!"

Our [Beagle] Bailey loves to burrow, too. Until we broke her of it (assuming we really have), she loved to get on our bed and, faster than we could protest, even, burrow under the covers until her head was at the foot of the bed. We had the distinct impression that she would be content to sleep there, but we were not content with that.

Its not only a Doxie thing, its a min pin thing too. All of our min pins, rescued or not, love to burrow in the covers, as does our doxie and iggie. And as long as at least their head is covered, all is good. If they can't see you, you can't see them, right? LOL

Maybe in his litter he was always the one on the bottom of the dog piles. So to speak.
Need for privacy?
Front or back tucked away..........he is a lucky dog
to live at RDR with you 2. Obviously
he is very relaxed.

Bailey is too cute - I have a dog that does this too - when it's cold she rolls up like a doodle bug under one of my old nightgowns with only her schnoz poking out. Guess Bailey doesn't even need the schnoz opening!!

Most of my dachsies have been head-coverers. They tell me they're invisible when they're like that.

I could be totally wrong on this but I've seen a couple other dogs (both doxies) do this. One liked her face or eyes covered up and the other one went for full body blanket immersion. I always thought it had something to do with their species as dogs who chase prey down burrows or into tunnels and that they feel comfort in a dark space. Whatever the reason, it sure is cute.

I think Bailey has come to the same conclusion as my dogs: If I can't see you, you can't see me.

Ok, as a dachshund who does this very same thing, here is the scoop. We tend to forget our bodies are soooooooooo long... and we love to burrow. So we burrow and burrow into the blanket thinking our bum is covered, when in fact it is not... just as Bailey proves, and I often do too. You really had my mom laughing with this post cause she finds me like this all the time... we also happen to think our little bums are so cute that we like to always show them off.

Clearly a Bailey thing...I bet he doesn't even realize how creative he is AND...all done in his sleep. What a talent! ; )

This is a really fun picture but your comments make it more enjoyable. Makes you wonder what and if dogs actually can reason.

All of my dachshunds do this. Even in the hot summer weather (105 degrees), they snuggle under the blankies like that. Maybe they like to play hide and seek? I don't know.... but it sure is darn cute!!!!

The real reason Bailey does this: he loves to confound you, Steve. Also, the blanket muffles the chuckles he makes from knowing the reaction he provokes. :)

Steve,

Haven't you learned yet that you simply do not question the motives of a RDR Doxie ??????

( But i admit it is fun to try !(
