Here's blind Emmy, who just arrived last week from North Carolina, checking out the fridge in the welcome center. She is a delightful girl, and whirls and dances when she knows breakfast or dinner is coming her way. We concluded she really isn't deaf ... she hears all kinds of sounds (as in, "they're fixing my supper!"). Her issue is sometimes getting a fix on where the sound is coming from, so it's more of a directional thing than actual hearing.
Alayne took her to our vets in Helena today because she's had two really bad cases of diarrhea and vomiting since arriving ... yet punctuated by days of no problems at all. The intermittent nature of this rules out a lot of the usual suspects, including parvo, thank heavens!
We know she had a horrific case of worms in North Carolina -- the vet there said Emmy had "every kind of worm" -- and was treated for it. Our vets here think that if she had a worst-case infestation, it's possible some came back, so we wormed her again today and will give her another dose in two weeks. We've already had her on the drug metronidazole for general intestinal ailments for the past two days. Hopefully between the wormer and the metro we'll get this licked.
Meanwhile, Emmy continues to hang out at the welcome center, where we have her in isolation for two weeks. She is just the sweetest thing, and springs to life when she realizes I've arrived to see her. Emmy starts thumping her tail and then leaps into the air -- in my general direction -- to greet me. Then she'll bow down like she wants to play, and race around in circles. This dog has sure come a long way from the frightened creature Mika first wrote us about in that original email.

What a charming pooch with personality! She knows she is loved and cared for....that explains her happy disposition! I am sure she can hardly wait to play with the other K-9's at the ranch..so here's hoping she is clear of all worms and other nasty things.

Emmy is so pretty! We're glad that her being sick doesn't seem to make her feel bad. She looks like a shaved Old English Sheepdog with a tail in her photos. I think she's really going to have fun when she gets to meet her new chums at the RDR!

She is so sweet natured, isn't she????!!!! I just love her dance that she would do for food :-)
I hope her stomach problems go away! I'm a little worried, and hope it is just what the vets think, that the first dewormer did not get them all and they have multiplied. Well, today is her first week anniversary with you guys... we still miss her here, but already have our hands full with the next two dogs, and that makes it a little easier. One day maybe I'll have a ranch too and won't have to make these tough decisions!
Please let me know how her health is. Thank you for taking good care of her. She's found the fridge huh? So cute :-)

Emmy is probably thanking her lucky stars for arriving at the RDR. Sounds like she is really settling in. Look forward to hearing more about this sweet girl!!!

She sounds like such a wonderful addition to your family, I hope she starts feeling better. That is super that you guys were able to take her. A MILLION thanks to Mika for getting her to you. And, congrats on getting the welcome center done. I would love to see more pictures of it, it looks like it came a long way from the cat house!
